For anyone who hasn't heard, Sariah was born on Feb. 24th. This is her story.
It all started in the early evening on Monday, Feb. 23rd. I had been having contractions here and there but nothing to bat an eye at. Greg and I sat down for our usual run of Monday night shows. Inevitably I fell asleep on the couch. Around 10 pm I woke up to a pretty strong contraction. Not thinking anything of it I just moved around for a minute and then went back to the couch to finish our show. The contractions kept coming and started getting stronger. I decided to sit in the tub hoping that might relieve some of it. I still didn't think it was anything, I had never gone into labor on my own before, so it really wasn't going to happen now. After all she wasn't due for another week. Greg and I decided it would be best to go to bed and get some rest. We were talking and I just couldn't get comfortable. Around midnight I rolled over of then it happened. My water broke. I turned to Greg and said I either just pee'd or this was it. I got up to go to the bathroom and it was like Hoover Dam had just exploded. Yep, my water broke alright. We called our midwife and our babysitter and went on our way. We got to the Birth Center about 12:45 am. After it was decided I was at a 4, I made a b-line for the tub. I sat there for about an hour while the contractions were about 3 minutes apart. I did get out and sat on the ball for a bit too since they were thinking baby was sunny side up and were hoping to turn her. It was intense. I finally made my way to the bed and laid there and not really cried but let it be known I was hurting. They checked me again and I was still at a 4. I kept saying I needed to push but I was on my side. No one thought it was time yet so there wasn't much going on until I said I needed to push. The midwife was awesome and said to follow my instincts and do what felt right. I didn't want to roll over though cause it hurt too much. With the contractions right on top of each other she and Greg pushed me onto my back to find the baby was crowning and immediately told me to push. With the first push her head came out. Then the midwife moved out of the way and let Greg catch the baby on the second push. Sariah was born at 2:52 am on Feb. 24th. We weighed in at 9 lbs and was 20 inches long. She came out and immediately went for the breast. She was very alert, taking everything in and did very little crying. It was a wonderful moment. She continues to be a happy baby.
