Pool Safety

I have recently had a few conversations of pools, their safety and if I would ever have a house that had one. In each discussion I always said if I felt really safe with something then I would probably consider it but it would have to be pretty amazing fencing or something to help secure that feeling. Case in point...Yesterday I told the kids we would go swimming in the afternoon, once everyone finished their naps. Zach and Adam were highly anticipating it and were dressed and ready before Elayna even woke up. With Elayna finally awake I sent her to get changed and told the boys I was going to get ready and then we would go. The next thing I know Zach comes in and is telling me Adam is outside. I hurridly thrown my shorts on (just put my suit on too) and head out to see whats going on. Adam is already inside the pool gate about to put his foot in the water. I loudly called his name and he froze. I yelled at him to get home pronto in front of all the people who were already swimming. He came a running! Once he got home we talked about what he had done. Not only had he climbed up and opened the latch at the top of the front door, he had also taken the pool keys and unlocked the gate himself and just went in. I am not normally one who likes to embarrass my kids in front of people but this time I'm glad it happened that way. He was mortified I had yelled at him, angrily, in front of everyone. It was probably a better punishment that putting his nose in the corner. It just goes to show that it would have to be an electric fence or something to keep the kids out. I probably would get a house with a pool once I no longer have kids living at home or once they know how to swim. Either way it was a great learning experience for us all.

I totally agree. Kids are very bright and if they want something bad enough they'll figure it out, even if it is super dangerous. No pool for us for now. Glad everyone is safe.

That's so scary. Marc had to yell at Isabella the other day too because when it was time to leave the pool she swam out into the middle of it with her kick board while he was getting Tyler out and told him she wasn't leaving! I'm glad that you caught Adam in time. By the way I love your bee blog paper, so cute!
