Fun at 55 mph

We decided to experiment a little with our gas tank. It took us 70$ to fill up our tank on Saturday. ARRRR!!! Just two weeks ago it was 50. Just last summer it was 30. So we get that the high prices are killing us. We decided that since we were driving to Phoenix on Saturday (great action Mo and Shaun) what better time to experiment with the gas. I have always heard that at 55 mph you get your optimum miles per gallon so Greg requested that we try it and let me tell you...WOW! I am completely amazed by how much we saved. It usually takes us a half a tank to get to Phoenix and back. Round trip was 212 miles (including all our city driving). Amazingly it only took a quater of a tank round trip. Talk about saving! We usually get 250-275 miles total on one fill up at the gas station and we are currently sitting at half a tank of gas left and are at 264 miles. Can you believe it? I am so impressed. Not only did we have wonderful conversation for the drive up but we saved some BIG pennies. So we did add about 20-30 minutes to our drive and had 2 18-wheelers honk at us (big bullies!) but it was well worth the sneers or traffic jams to save a little. Give it a try. Save some money. Don't let anyone tell you you can't do it cause the signs say we can go 75 mph. Thats just the limit not the prerequesite. Its a little intimidating at first to go slower but in the end its well worth it. I'll let you know what our final tally for miles is when we get there. Who knows how far we'll go?!?!

So, I'm not sure how on earth I didn't know about your blog before. In any case, I just wanted to say that I was glad to read this because the speed limit on Oregon (where I'm from) highways has always been 55. I hear so much complaining about it from out-of-staters and your reasoning is the "WHY" we were always told in drivers' ed. Now I know it's true from second-hand experience!
